People talk about traditional and new mediaPOPULAR CULTURE Hi! How is everyone doing today? Well I think that the people magazine is just full of gossip. It might be the truth that they are writing about but they always make it sound trashy no matter how they print it. I like the Free Press it seems to write about things that seem to hit home. I am kind of of partial to the Free Press because my son works there. Bonnie Gore London Ont. ------------ Hi everyone. I have read both the free press and the people magazine and I feel that the people magazine is full of gossip. It might be all true but it does not appeal to me because no matter how they write a story it always sounds trashy. They don't take into consideration how the people feel that they are writing about. Some stories seem so far fetched they are really hard to believe even if the facts are right there. The free press seems to be more down to earth, yes they probably gossip a lot also but the stories you read about in the free press seem to hit home a lot more. Their stories, you usually have already heard about them from friends or family before they hit the paper. I hope this is what you wanted. ----------- I have been comparing between two web sites: one is People Magazine and the other one is Free Press. I have found that the writers of People Magazine are professionally hired editors, producers, and many other skilled people. As for Free Press, the general public writes the articles, ads, classifieds, movie reviews, and many other articles. Both of these web sites are enjoyed by mainly adults ranging from the ages of 18 to 55+ above and are living in North America. The other information that I found about both web sites was that one web site (People Magazine) talks about actors and actresses, the lives they lead and all the things true or not that are being said about them. Free Press, on the other hand, tells you about the comments and concerns people have regarding businesses, important issues in their communities and event listings. Both of these web sites have access to full articles and full stories that you are interested in with complete details. If anyone is interested in on-going information from People Magazine, you would have to subscribe to their magazine. Free Press is a little bit different: you don’t pay for a subscription; you pay for an ad you would like to put in, classifieds you would like to put in, important topics you would like address, and comments you would have. In my opinion, I would probably trust People Magazine more then Free Press due to the fact that People Magazine has experienced and professional editors, researchers, and producers that find out about the “real” truth that is in the world. I have concluded that both web sites are democratic, but Free Press is more subjective because it talks of opinions rather than facts, whereas People Magazine is more objective or factual. That is why I would use People Magazine to find out about what is going on all over the world and I would use Free Press to find out about opinions and ads that I might be interested in. Thus, the web sites are similar and different in many ways. Aneta ------------- Hi There I read the people magazine on the computer. My opinion is that the story that they write are very trashy and are full of gossip.I usually hear about the gossip from my friend. The magazine should write about things that are happening in the world.People would buy the magazine if they read about the facts on the story, not the gossip. You would not catch me buying that magazine. Have a nice day Barry --------- The media whether "new" or "traditional" is usually but not always based in truth. However some "form of gossip" is frequently added to make the "story" more interesting. Each of us has to assess whether or not we "think" the information is accurate. If information is in question it should be checked out with at least two other independent sources.
