People talk about traditional and new mediaNEWS In my research, I found that the people who write for the Toronto Star are journalists, editors, publishers, whereas Indy Media is a grassroots non-cooperate media source and pretty much anyone can write for them. I have also found that the Toronto Star has a wide variety information suited to everybody’s interests, whereas Indy Media is more for people who are more politically aware. Both the sites are democratic; however, one tries to be objective and the other is biased. The Toronto Star has a lot of different information on its site. It covers everything from business reports to shopping, anything that you can find. In contrast, Indy Media covers global news and political news; it has more of a narrow view on certain issues. When one wants to read a full story, one has to go to the bottom of the brief headings and press the full story link. Both have the same accessibility to other sites of the Internet. Both present many interesting pictures, but Toronto Star interested me more because it showed more variety. Also, I found that for the Toronto Star, one has to pay a subscription fee, whereas Indy Media is free. In my personal opinion, I would use the Toronto Star if I want to browse on different subjects. However, I would use Indy Media if I wanted to know anything about government or what’s happening around the world that requires me to be more politically aware. By Ashley 7-Apr-05 ----------- Hi There Again! I read the newspaper a lot and I find that the star is the better paper because they get the news first and they tell about the world news first and if their is more happening around the world. In London, I read the London Free press they write about the world news and about our local news. Have a nice day! Barry ---------- Hi! Everyone this is Bonnie from London Ontario. Hope everyone is doing fine today. Well I did the research about the star and the indymedia paper. I like the star better mainly because I have heard about it before. As for the indymedia paper it is all new to me. The cost of the paper in the GTA is quite expensive I think but living in the GTA is costly also. I would trust the star for the same reason only because I have not heard much about it before. I think in order to read the whole story you would have to click on the news clip that you are interested in and at the bottom there is a button that says full story, click on it and then you can read all of it. When it comes to the star the paper hires their writers and the indymedia is independent journalists who write and the editor has the last say on whose story gets in or not. I would the sites when I was doing a project for school, to look up about a author. ---------- The news is a combination of a current event and the opinion of the writer/reporter. We all tend to describe things in our own way and our own words. Tell me a joke and if I remember it my version will definitely be different. |
