Spacing TrickHere's what you do. Type a line of text. At the end of the line type
. Then type another line of text. Post your message. You will see that a line space is added between your two lines of text. To get
use Shift to capitalize and then use the < and > on the keys for comma and period on your keyboard. Type p in between and you have the code. |

How to thread messagesWhen you want to reply to a message, make sure that you click on “reply”. Do not click on “post”. This is called threading – it means your message will show up as if it is threaded to this one. We will know what messages belong together and people will be able to find your message. People who come on the web board will be able to read the messages in order and will be able to follow the discussion. This will make it easier for them to join in. You will notice that the topic (see the bar above the space you type in)will be the same as the message you are replying to. This is a good way to check to see if your message is properly threaded. You can change the topic or add something to it so people will know what your message is about. For example if the message you are replying to is called "Jobs on the internet", and you want to share some examples you found you could add the word "examples". The new topic would read "Jobs on the internet-examples". Do not make your topic too long or we cannot see it easily. |

How to start a new threadIf you want to share an new idea or ask a new question, make sure that you reply to the week we are in (for example - this is week 1 so open the week 1 message and click on reply). Look at the "topic" bar above the space for typing in. You will see that it says Week 1 - Introductions. Highlight this and delete it. Type in a title that lets us know what you are going to talk about. For example, you might want to talk about the weirdest website you have ever seen. You could type in the topic "weird websites". (Do not make your topic too long or we cannot see it easily.) People who want to talk about weird websites can reply to your message. --------------- Remember, you are not just completing activities, you are part of a conversation. |

If you want your website to become a clickable link in your message, make sure you use http:// before the www. For example, if I put www.literacyenquirer.ca/xinternet/ in my message, you cannot click on it. To find this website you have to type the address into the address bar on your browser (the little white bar at the top of this page that tells you what website you are on). If I put http://www.literacyenquirer.ca/xinternet/ in my message, you can click on it and that website will open up in a new page. P.S. On the website, we make links differently so I can make anything a clickable link. |
